Love Incarnate

Father-Hand

A God of curved space and linear time is not enough for me. I need a personal presence wrapped in flesh. A distant God of quarks and cosmos is only meaningful if that God is also a person who lives, moves, and has being with me, in me, and through me here and now. A God who is only distant or a force of nature is not God at all. Likewise, a God who is only human and a good person of remote history is not God at all. God must be both immanent and transcendent, human and divine, flesh and spirit, finite and eternal, something and everything or nothing at all. God-with-us, Emmanuel, is love incarnate and (after all) the very same love that also moves the cosmos. Death has no power over this.
