The Annunciation

March 25  (Luke 1:26-38)

Deep in the desert of Lenten observance suddenly comes the Annunciation…news of Christmas and the beginning of the Incarnation. Into the routine of the ordinary comes the extraordinary. Hope blooms in the desert. One peasant girl’s numinous experience blooms into God’s presence among us. This annunciation is for everyone. With our permission, and only with it, God’s love can bloom in the desert spaces in us to bring new life. With Mary of Nazareth, I pray: let this be done to me according to God’s will.
