We all suffer. We all die. These are common to all of us. No person escapes all suffering. No person escapes dying; neighbor, friend, relative, stranger, enemy,…all suffer…all die. And we all have the same desire: all living things want to avoid suffering and death. All things want to be pain-free, happy, and alive. Animals, too. From your worst enemy to the anonymous animal that dies to feed you, all suffer and die, and all want to avoid it. This should awaken the perspective of compassion.
Am I so unaware in avoiding this fact of life that I treat others badly and act as if I do not share this common fate?
We are here to love and care for one another, and to rejoice all of our days in the One who holds us in being. There isn’t anything else. The end result of all knowledge and experience should be Love and compassion.
