The Vowed Life

Marriage, parenting, religion, work…it takes the constancy of years to see and know the depth of riches hidden in a vow, in a sacramental commitment. It never turns out as one originally intends and that is good. God’s plans are not our plans, but love and depth of spirit are always willed for us. In a vowed life there is an enduring joy even amidst sufferings. The vow is our part of the covenant; how it plays out is God’s part.

Prayer: Loving God, let me see you in the daily living out of my sacramental commitments. Give me the strength to persevere and to remember when I want to forget.

“Either give yourself totally to the call or remain mired in the inconsequential.”                                                                                            – Fr. James Behrens, OCSO
