Doing The Dishes (Martha and Mary)

“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.”

(see Luke 10: 38-42)

Martha was burdened with doing the dishes while Mary sat listening to Jesus talk. Martha was not only reprimanding Mary but also Jesus for encouraging such laziness. Martha’s god was work.

Work is not a sin. Making work your god is a sin. Martha thought she was too busy to sit and listen. She tried to shame Mary and Jesus into getting with the program. Martha was a control freak. Mary was a Jesus freak.

To be still and know God is the work of a lifetime. It is the one thing necessary. Love of God comes first before doing the dishes. The dishes you will always have with you. Love God first, then do the dishes.
