Neon Gods

“And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon god they made.”

– Simon and Garfunkel: ‘The Sound of Silence’

Today, I am far away in body, mind, and spirit from the neon gods of this age. I am home, gardening, surrounded by my family, resting and praying; celebrating; loving. This life is so short and unpredictable, subject to sudden upheavals and reversals of fortune; why do we ever bother to create turmoil? There is so much to be grateful for. Happiness cannot be found beneath the glare of our cherished neon gods and shared illusions. When will we ever learn? As for me and my family, we will seek the one thing necessary, far from the neon lights. Peace the world cannot give. Shalom.
