Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”
By any conventional standards of society, then and now, Jesus was crazy. Even his relatives thought he was crazy. But Jesus was good crazy. By that, I mean amazing, unexpected, loving, and too good not to be true. Well, isn’t that just like the amazing God of this universe of quarks and gravity, and me and you? The seemingly irrational can sometimes be the grace of God trying to enter into hearts and minds that have grown too small. Sometimes we need to go beyond the mind we have (“He is out of his mind.”) to see what is really happening. This is the good kind of crazy; God’s kind of crazy.
“God’s grace often comes to us in seemingly irrational and unforeseen events.”
– Msgr. Stephen J. Rossetti
