3 Steps to Sanity

There are 3 steps to sanity…

The first step: “I can’t.”

The second step: “God can.”

The third step: “I will allow it.”

We want to always be in control, which is understandable and impossible. We want to fix everything, which is noble and unrealistic. For human beings the miracle is not to walk on water but to walk on the earth. Be present, do your best, co-operate with grace, and leave the rest to God. Faith, not control. Progress, not perfection. This is hard to accept, but it is sanity.

As long as you say “I can” in an impossible situation, you can’t. Knowing the difference between possible and impossible is the difference between sanity and insanity. We all need help doing this. Admitting that is the first step and the hardest.
